Setup for this compaign is very straighforward for the players. The players characters can literally come from anywhere and anytime and do not need to know each other. Yes, a character made around a caveman from 100,000 years ago could play with a character from 2025 who (much to the confusion of the caveman) spends most of their time taking selfies and complaining that they can't get service anywhere. The compaign takes into account issues such as language barriers and provides solutions to them. (I mean if pulling a sword out of a rock can blast you seven years into the future, why can't attunement to the hero's tunic help teach you how to speak Hylian...) For the session, each player simply needs a Level 1 character with a simple description. Where they are from, what timeframe they are from, and what they would do in a typical day. Of course the more backstory to a character the more memorable the character, but it is not required.
Setup for this session should also be very straightforward for the DM. First things first, this session is set up assuming you do not let your players know this is a Ocarina of Time based compaign. I drop a tiny hint at the beginning in a dream each player has, later the players will meet an old man who gives them a sword and tells them its dangerous to go alone, the players will then fight a few Keese, have another dream (at this point if they haven't picked up on what is going on, they didn't play enough n64 as a child), and finally wake up in Kokiri Town. It is intended to give the player's characters a chance to interact with each other a little bit, experience a little combat together, and explain how everyone got where they are. And of course drop that they are doing an Ocarina of Time compaign.
To start the session, have each player introduce their character, where and when they are, what they did that day, exc. After they explain their day and pass out, they have one of the three dreams below. It does not matter which player gets what dream and more than one player can have the same dream. Try and give out all 3.
